A SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST…3.16.09

by Steve

Here’s something I would very much like all of you to pray about this week. The bishop and cabinet of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church began last night a week-long meeting to consider appointments in our conference. The meetings will go from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day. Their routine will be to pray…make appointments…pray…make appointments…pray.

This is a difficult time for the cabinet as well as for us ministers, many of whom are sitting on the edge of their seats while awaiting the outcome of a process over which we have no control. So…we pray, too, that God’s will might be done, and that all of us will find ourselves in a church which is in need of whatever gifts and graces God may have blessed us with.

As for me, after 17 years here in Union Grove, and as one of the two longest serving senior pastors in the same church in the WNC Conference, I am always a little nervous during this time. I have not asked for a move, nor has the church requested a change, but after 17 years, anything could happen. Please pray that the bishop and cabinet will be responsive to the promptings of the Spirit, and that their deliberations and decisions will be in keeping with God’s will. We can ask no more than that.
