MORE BARBARA BROWN TAYLOR…5.12.09

I’m almost finished with BBT’s newest book, An Altar in the World. I don’t know when I have read a book that has impacted my thinking and my practice quite as much as this one has. Because I know that the majority of you will not, for one reason or another, read it, I feel that I just have to give you a few more snippets…hoping that they will impact you as much as they have me.

“The supreme religious challenge,” says Rabbi Sacks, “is to see God’s image in one who is not in our image,” for only then can we see past our own reflection in the mirror to the God we did not make up. The God who made others diffferent from us is revealed in them as well as us.

O what a powerful statement, and what a difference it would make in our familes, communities, countries, and world were we able to see God in every person! That would indeed change everything!
