THE DANGERS OF TRUTH-TELLING…8.11.09

by Steve

After last Sunday’s sermon, in which I spoke on the positive aspects of doubt, someone sent me the following quote, the truth of which has captured me:

There is an Irish saying, “the person who speaks the truth should have one foot in the stirrup.” He should be ready to ride off at once. People do not like the truth, especially when it challenges their attitudes; and the reaction is often to try to destroy the evidence of the truth or the one who witnesses to it. Truth-telling can be a perilous undertaking, as Jesus would attest!
