Josh, I hadn't heard about the X-mas before you said it here. That makes me want to read up more about it's origins. Steve, I've been reading and just want to say Merry Christmas to you.

Another needed jolt to correct the ever straying focus of most Christians on what really matters and the example that Jesus has provided for us to follow... Funny how the same people who will protest the removal of religious specifics from publicly funded decorations are the same ones who claim to be the most patriotic and tout their love for the Constitution - the very document who's authors purposefully left God out and explicitly drew a separation between His house and the government's houses in order to protect everyone's religious freedom... Funny, but not surprising, as self-contradiction is all too prevalent in that mindset. You can't have it both ways, but you certainly can waste a lot of time and energy fretting over corporate signage instead of spreading Jesus' love and compassion to others... If you wish to preserve the meaning of the season then use your own actions as a sign of Christ, and it won't matter so much if Wal-mart mentions Christmas in their ads..... After all, those leeches wish for nothing more than to cast the broadest, most generic net possible to drag in dollars from every pocket they can reach.... I'll spare you the rant and get back to the topic at hand.
All politics and economics aside, this whole argument is even more ludicrous when you consider the fact that all of the memorable traditions of the holiday, except for the recognition of Christ's birth, have absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. All of it: holly, ivy, mistletoe, yule log, the giving of gifts, decorated evergreen tree, magical reindeer, even the date are of pagan origin.... Derived from many primitive cultures and their celebrations of the winter solstice. "Holiday tree" is actually more accurate than "Christmas tree", go figure - so maybe instead of worrying about word usage we should just focus on the needs of those on the angel tree..... Oh yeah, and the next time you hear someone complaining about scratching out Christ and using X-mas, you can tell them that it has been used in religious writings for at least 1,000 years and that X is the Greek letter "chi" which just so happens to be the first letter in the Greek word for Christ - so He was there all along..... Merry Xmas everyone!! Let's spread the love and forget all the fluff...

Was needing a response to all those protestors. These one will work quite nicely. If only we could all fulfill something on the wish list.
